Greene County district court, week ending Oct. 22

In Greene County district court James Warren Matthews Jr, 24, of Ogden was granted a deferred judgment Oct. 21 after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. He was placed on self probation for one year. He must pay a $105 civil penalty and $200 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Breeanna Marie King, 26, of Perry was sentenced Oct. 20 to 180 days in jail, with all but two days suspended, after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. She was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. She may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. King was fined $1,250 with a $187.5 surcharge; one-half will be waived if she obtains a temporary restricted license. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Brenda Jean Kennedy, 40, of Grand Junction was sentenced to two days in jail, with credit for time served, after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. Kennedy was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. Court costs were $136.50. Roger Keith Ketchum Jr, 33, of Jefferson was sentenced to 10 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault- simple, amended from domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. The jail sentence was suspended and he was placed on informal probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. Ketchum was fined $105 with a $15.75 surcharge. He must pay $539.28 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $131.50 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Jose Seferino Hernandez Bravo, 26, of Urbandale was sentenced to one year in jail, with all but two days suspended, after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Corey Allen Mutum, 22, of Carroll, possession of methamphetamine; Joshua Arick Rodgers, 29, of Jefferson, child endangerment causing serious injury; Casey Roland Kennedy, 21, of Grand Junction, domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness (two counts), and in a separate case, criminal mischief- second degree and criminal mischief- first degree; and Gerrick Smith, 24, of Jefferson, neglect or abandonment of dependent person, and child endangerment causing serious injury. Trial dates were set for Dec. 7 for Kennedy on the criminal mischief charges and for Smith. Trial dates were set for Jan. 25, 2022, in the other cases.

A case was initiated against Suanne Elaine Winters, 50, of Bayard on a charge of domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness.
