The Greene County Rams cross country team made the trip to Jewell on Oct. 11 to compete in the Heart of Iowa Conference championship. The boys team earned second place out of seven complete teams at the race.
It was a cloudy, rainy day at the Jewell Golf and Country Club. The girls ran first for the evening, with two Greene County runners, Olivia Shannon and Autumn Stevens, both juniors. Shannon came in 27th in the race in 24:33 with Stevens coming in 55th in 28:09. A total of 75 girls raced.
The Rams had eight boys competing with five runners finishing in the top-20. Logan Woodruff crossed the finish line in ninth place; Ethan Frederick in 13th, Noah Hinote in 14th, Gavyn Winters in 15th and Jayden Carstensen in 20th. The boys team came in second place, losing only to Nevada.

Girls team results: Roland-Story 25; South Hamilton 62; West Marshall 102; Nevada 110; PCM 111; Perry 118; Saydel 175. No team score: Greene County.
Greene County will run on Thursday, Oct. 21 at the Gowrie Municipal Golf Course for their Class 2A state qualifying race. The top three teams and top 15 individuals from each race will advance to the state meet on Oct. 30 in Fort Dodge.
