The Greene County Rams continue to do well this season, holding the Shenandoah Mustangs to just six points versus their own 54 for Senior Night last Friday.
In the first quarter of the game, the Rams picked up 12 points and prevented the Mustangs from gaining much traction on the scoreboard. Ram quarterback Bryce Stalder was responsible for both of the touchdowns. The first was a successful throw to Jackson Morton to get things going. Stalder then ran the ball 10 yards for a second touchdown.
The second quarter put the game out of reach. Stalder sent a ball through the air to Richard Daugherty in the end zone, followed by Shenandoah scoring their one and only touchdown of the game. Early in the second quarter, Stalder had another long run to score. Stalder was on a hot streak and tossed the football to Jesse Miller to score another touchdown for Greene County.
Lamar Anders came in with a three-yard run, followed by Stalder throwing the ball to Max Riley to score once again, making the score 47-6 at the break.
The second half of the game saw a lot less action with the continuous clock running. Patrick Daugherty scored the only points of the half with a rushing touchdown.
Stalder completed six out of 11 passes. Jackson Morton was his favorite target catching three aerials for 111 yards and one touchdown. Max Riley caught a 19-yard TD pass while Richard Daugherty nailed an 18-yard score. Jesse Miller also added a 17-yard TD. Morton and Anders each scored two-point conversions.
Stalder topped the ground game with eight scrambles for 129 yards and two TDs. Lamar Anders carried the pigskin seven times for 42 yards and one score. Patrick Daugherty carried six times for 44 yards and a TD. Daniel Rivera ran twice for 13 yards; R Daugherty, one carry, six yards; Gabe Ebersole, one carry, three yards; Gavin Scheuermann, one carry, nine yards and Nathan Black, one carry, 10 yards.
The Ram defense forced six turnovers. Michael Rumley recovered a fumble. Picking up interceptions were: R Daugherty, 28 yards; Morton, 26 yards; Bradyn Smith, 19 yards; Stalder, 16 yards, and Ebersole.
The Rams performed a well-rounded defense with a large number of players contributing to the success. Topping the tackle chart were Smith and R Daugherty, two solo, five tackles; Morton two solo, 3.5 tackles and P Daugherty, one solo, three tackles.
Also contributing to the defense were: Rumley, one solo, 2.5 tackles; Daniel Rivera and R Daugherty, one solo, two tackles; Stalder, Trey Schilling, Black and Scheuermann, one solo; Camden Strennen, Ebersole, Blake Hamman and Brenner Gallagher, 1.5 tackles; Anders, two tackles; Caden Telleen, one tackle.
Nathan Behne kicked off nine times for 429 yards. Nathan Black punted once for 34 yards.
The win left the Rams undefeated in their district, with a 6-1 overall record for the season. A loss by Clarke Community to Red Oak put the Rams in first place in Class 2A District 8.
Their last regular season game is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 15 against Clarke Community in Osceola.
