Scranton community fundraiser slated for Sept. 18

Plans are being finalized for the second annual Scranton Community Fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 18. Tickets are on sale at Peoples Bank in Scranton, H.F. and Maude E. Marchant Memorial Library or from committee members. Payment of $15 per person will also be accepted at the door.

Funds raised will be divided between the Scranton Community Center, library, fire department and parks department.

Doors open at 5 pm with the meal served at 6 pm. Live and silent auctions are slated with plenty of nice items on the block.

The meal will include the choice of meat grilled by the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association, Greene County Pork Producers and Greene County Lamb Producers. Select from a ribeye sandwich, smoked pork loin or smoked leg of lamb.

Lidderdale Country Store is furnishing five side dishes. Soft drinks and water will quench your thirst. An ice cream bar will satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth.

Entertainment will be provided by the band Dirt Road Divide, beginning about 8:30 pm. They are a four-piece band with drums, acoustic guitars, electric guitar, and bass guitar. One of the members is talented on the harmonica.

The band plays a lot of country music (some old and some new). They also throw in some classic rock, ‘80s rock and a few newer rock songs. They pride themselves on a variety of music thick with popular songs that people know.

Two band members are from Greene County. Josh Monthei is from the Cooper area while Brian Wilson hails from Jefferson (originally Churdan). Charlie Stogdill is from Atlantic and Chance Hill is from Stuart.

“We don’t really have a hometown but we love playing for our communities. Being from Greene County is hometown to us,” said a band spokesman. This is the link to the page. https://www.face book.com/dirtroaddivide/

The first Scranton Community Fundraiser held in 2019 was a big success. The 2020 event was cancelled due to the pandemic.
