In Greene County district court Conar Allen Hornsby, 24, of Grand Junction was sentenced Aug. 4 to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Hornsby was fined $,1025 with a $153.75 surcharge. He must pay an amount not to exceed $300 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $269.21 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Jonathan Phillip Michael Kennedy, 33, of Bagley was sentenced to one year in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of trespass causing damage, amended from burglary- second degree. The jail sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. Kennedy was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. He must also pay $189 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $213.40 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Gina C. Badding)
Samantha Nicole Peel, 35, of Des Moines was sentenced to 10 days in jail after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. She will receive credit for jail time previously served. Peel was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; both were suspended. She must pay an amount not to exceed $400 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Jason Andrew Songer, 41 of Farnhamville was granted a deferred judgment Aug. 4 after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. He was placed on informal probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. He must follow the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already completed, and he must complete a state-approved 12-hour impaired driver’s education course. A judgment was entered for a $1,250 civil penalty; one-half was waived because Songer has already obtained a temporary restricted license. Court costs were $100.
Persons pleaded not guilty as follows: Brenda Jean Kennedy, 49,of Grand Junction possession of methamphetamine; Jonah Van Khua Lian, 41, of Clive, oWI; Tyler Wayne Howell, 38, of Fort Dodge, driving while license barred; Sean Patrick Phillip Shell, 45, of Jefferson, possession of marijuana; Mitchell Kenneth Venteicher, 36, of Jefferson, driving while license barred; Maddison Jolynn Battani, 19, of Des Moines, driving while license barred and identity theft less than $1,500; and Patrick James Cook, 53, of Des Moines, OWI. Trial dates were set for Sept. 28 for all defendants except Shell. His trial date was set for Nov. 2.
