Borgeson reunion – The Borgeson family gathered Sunday evening for pictures and to celebrate the birthdays of Alan and Kane Borgeson, Sierra Hampton, and Seth Borgeson. The twins, Jayden and Sophia, even got early birthday presents from their aunts and uncles to take home. The birthday cake didn’t last long at that table!
Those attending the festivities were the Hampton family from Chandler, AZ, Linda, Blake, Sierra, Jayden and Sophia; Michael and Jill Borgeson, Jace Johnson and Seth, Rippey; Robert and Mel Borgeson, Jamaica; and Alan, Sarah, Kane and Kale Borgeson, Rippey.
Ohers attending were great uncle and aunt Dean and Elayne Bice of Johnston; their son Chris Bice of Ankeny; cousin Judy Wilson and friend Jerry Erickson of Paton; as well as Marc DeMoss of Rockwell City. There was plenty of food and laughter finished the evening.
The Hampton family left Monday after a very busy two weeks! The “treasures” found at Grandma’s will have to be mailed and the rocks painted will become part of the landscape!
Jean’s Jottings – What a nice break in the weather for the Rippey Sesquicentennial +1 celebration. The people in charge, while a sense of relief, should be very satisfied with the turnout and support they had, especially after the postponement last year.
I especially enjoyed helping the family researchers find their relatives in the local cemeteries. Some of us have been communicating for a while about their family trees, and to help them search the cemeteries to find the gravestones of their ancestors who helped settle this area is always a thrill for me. There were several family gatherings during this weekend and more seeds of interest were planted in the younger folks, who are wanting to know about their ancestors.
At the church, the crowd was filled with people discovering each other after decades. Their faces lit up with recognition, either right away or after they shared their names. (I had a few of those, myself.) Those young kids I had in Junior Choir in 1966 quickly reminded me how long I have lived in the area!
While I didn’t get too far from the church, reports from those who explored everything had only good things to say about the day and evening. Again, the committee should be feeling very satisfied and grateful to each other for this successful day!
