The Greene County baseball team gave up their winning streak with a 5-4 loss to Ogden Monday, July 5. They fell 3-0 to Saydel July 6 and ended the week with a 6-4 win over Carroll Friday, July 9. The game scheduled with Denison-Schleswig Wednesday was cancelled due to wet field conditions in Jefferson.
The Rams ended the regular schedule with a 13-12 win over Atlantic Monday. They are preparing for a Class 3A Substate 8 first round tournament game at Gilbert Friday, July 16. Game time is 7 pm. Gilbert is 20-7 this summer while the Rams are 8-14.
Ogden 5 ~ Rams 4
Greene County went into the game with a five-game winning streak, but the Bulldogs brought it to an end when they topped the Rams 5-4 in Jefferson. The Rams posted eight hits while the Bulldogs had just three, but seven GC errors and 13 runners left on base was too much for the Rams to overcome.
Joe Carey singled three times with one RBI and Bryce Stalder had a single and double. Max Riley and Justin Stream each singled and Peyton Kinsey stroked an RBI single.
Carey took the loss on the mound despite allowing just one earned run. Kole Teeples went the final 2-2/3 innings in relief without giving up a run.
Saydel 3 ~ Rams 0
Greene County’s last HOIC baseball game of the season ended in a 3-0 loss to Saydel Tuesday night in Jefferson.
Stalder worked the Ram pitching mound, allowing two earned runs on eight hits. He hit one batter, issued no walks, and struck out seven batters.
Stalder also had the only extra base hit, a double. Teeples, Stream, and Kinsey each singled once. The Rams were not able to get a single leadoff batter on base.
Rams 6 ~ Carroll 4
Four runs in the sixth inning put Greene County in front of Carroll 6-4 in a non-conference game Friday night. The Rams scored twice in the first inning and Carroll followed with a run. The Tigers added a run in the third and two in the fourth for a 4-2 lead. Then GC came up with five hits and plated four runs in the sixth to take home the victory.
Stalder rapped two singles for an RBI and Kinsey singled twice. Stream had a base hit and drove in two runs with Cameren Miller getting a single and one RBI. The other hits were singles by Carey and Teeples. Brayden Roberts posted an RBI on a sac fly.
Alex Roberts started on the mound for the Rams. He went the first three innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits, three walks, and two strikeouts. Kinsey pitched the last four innings and earned the win. He gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits and three walks, and had one strikeout. Greene County was charged with four errors.
