Violet Ann Brown Miers Vaughn died November 30, 2020 at Carlisle, at the age of 93 years. She was born April 4, 1927, the daughter of Ruth Mae Davis Brown and Ross Albert Franklin Brown. She grew up with her parents and two sisters in the small town of Arion.
Violet worked as a school teacher. She married W. Dean Miers in the late 1940s. They lived in Mount Vernon and had two sons, Danny and Randy. Later, Violet moved to Jefferson and worked as a telephone operator and also worked at the Jefferson schools. Time passed and Violet met and married Bernard “Bernie” Vaughn.
Fond family remembrances of Violet include always being met at the door with the biggest smile. Her home often had the pleasant aroma of freshly made glazed donuts or peanut butter cookies, and brewed coffee. Also remembered are the old assortment of toys for grandkids to play with in her living room, and the collection of cat trinkets, even though Violet never had a house cat. Many times, Violet approached her grandkids in the school lunch line and gave them a little extra money for buying sundaes or cinnamon rolls. She was always interested in what the family had been doing.
A memorial service was held July 9, 2021, at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home, Jefferson. Interment was at the Jefferson Municipal Cemetery.
Violet resided at Carlisle Care Center at the time of her passing. At her death, she was survived by her sons Dan (Mary) Miers of Carlisle and Randy (Anne) Miers of Rochester, MN; stepson Gary (Paula) Vaughn of Boone; and step-daughters: Karen Jahn of Longmont, CO, and Debra Geisler of Ankeny; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters Audrey (Merrill ) Larsh of Las Vegas, NV, and Alyce (Clyde) Lane of Lake View; other relatives and friends.
