Medical center foundation holds golf tournament

Greene County Medical Center Foundation director Nancy Houska couldn’t have asked for better weather for the Foundation’s golf tournament, held June 18 at the Jefferson Municipal Golf Course. Sunny skies, warm temperatures and 64 golfers made a perfect combination for fun and fundraising.

Sixteen teams began with a shotgun start at 10 am, followed by a boxed lunch provided by Greene County Medical Center’s nutrition department, and ending with a dinner catered by Bett & Bev’s BBQ. HyVee in Jefferson and the Iowa Hospital Association helped sponsor the dinner. Houska estimated more than $16,500 was raised with sponsorships, team registrations, hole sponsorships and a putting contest. Contest winners were awarded a Yeti cooler, Stay & Play package from Wild Rose Casino and prizes to the flight winners and hole contests.

“We were honored to have our event again this year, after not being able to  host the event last year due to COVID-19. I couldn’t be more pleased with the level or sponsorships and the turnout of golf teams.” Houska noted, “This year’s golf fundraiser honored our Hospital Heroes for all the dedication and work they did during the pandemic and every day.”

The overall winning team was Home State Bank with team members Troy Ticknor, Marcus Mechaelsen, Noah Juergensen and Eric Hockenberry.

Major sponsors included Drees Company of Carroll, Home State Bank, Landus Cooperative, Wild rose Casino, Bett & Bev’s BBQ, Iowa Hospital Association, Luzt Accounting, and UnityPoint Health – Des Moines.

Greene County Medical Center team members were on hand to accept the Hospital Heroes banner signed by all golfers. Team members representing the Medical Center include Foundation director Nancy Houska, patient financial advocate Maddie Smith, Deb Wolterman RN, director of acute nursing Ann Erickson RN, quality and patient experience director Tina McCollum RN, revenue cycle analyst Amber Tronchetti, and commercial insurance biller Carol Gower.
