The Greene County Historical Society’s museum in Jefferson will be open extended hours this weekend, and visitors in town for the Bell Tower Festival are especially invited.
Museum hours will be Friday, June 11, from 2 to 6 pm and Saturday, June 12, from 9 am to 6 pm. Volunteer guides will welcome and assist visitors.
Admission is free. Besides browsing the many displays and exhibits, visitors will probably also enjoy the museum’s air conditioning – especially if the current heat spell continues.
Visitors will get a sneak peek at a new exhibit that is still being put together. It features memorabilia from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s. That exhibit will officially open on Saturday, July 3, with a special panel discussion that morning about those transformative three decades.
The museum is following the recommendations and practices of Greene County public health and other county facilities, as far as COVID precautions are concerned. Masks are not required in the museum, but visitors are welcome to wear them. Smart social distancing is recommended.
Anyone with questions can leave word at the Greene County Historical Museum, 515-386-8544, or with executive director Roger Aegerter at 515-370-3982.
