Ram boys second, girls fifth at HOIAC track & field meet

The Ram track and field teams competed against Heart of Iowa Activities Conference rivals at the conference meet hosted by PCM May 6. The boys placed second and the girls placed fifth. Roland-Story claimed the conference titles for both boys and girls.

The Ram boys placed first in four events: the 4 X 110m shuttle hurdle relay team of Nathan Black, Jaxon Warnke, Bryce Stalder and Jackson Morton in 1:02; Morton in the 110m hurdles in 15.45 seconds, and in the 400m hurdles in 58.45 seconds; and Logan Woodruff in the 3200m run in 10:49.14.

Woodruff placed second in the 1600m run with a time of 5:04.40. The 4 X 200m relay team of Nathan Wailes, Warnke, Richard Daugherty and Stalder placed second in 1:34.11, and the 4 X 400m relay team of Stalder, Warnke, Morton and R. Daugherty placed second in 3:36.63.

Nathan Black placed second in the high jump, tied with Kinnick Christensen of West Marshall at a height of 6’. Bryce Stalder took second in the long jump with a leap of 21’ 6/75”.

Other finishes for which the Rams scored points were

  • 200m dash – Wailes, 24.76 seconds, fourth place
  • 400m dash – Black, 56.41 seconds, fourth place
  • 4 X 100m relay – Black, Wailes, R. Daugherty, Jesse Miller, 46.18 seconds, third place
  • 4 X 800m relay – Ethan Larsen, Gavin Scheuermann, Jackson Turner, Josh Ewalt, 9:46.67 minutes, fourth place
  • 800 sprint medley relay –  Miller, Wailes, Warnke, R. Daugherty, 1:39.13, third place
  • Distance medley relay –  Patrick Daugherty,  Reese Jennings, Eli Mohr, Cody Allen 4:17.51, sixth place
  • Discus throw – Ewalt, 130’ 4”, fourth place

Team scores for boys were Roland-Story 143, Greene County 111, South Hamilton 108, PCM 97, Nevada 66, West Marshall 40 and Saydel 23.

The girls scored more of their points in field events. Brooklyn Olson won the shot put with a throw of 38’ 2”, and she won the discus at 114’ 3”. Brianna Osterson won the long jump at 15’ 10-3/4”.

Olivia Shannon was the 200m dash with a time of 27.83 seconds.

Katrina Heupel placed second in the 400m dash in 1:04.66. She also placed fourth in the 800m run with a time of 2:41.40.

  • 4 X 100m relay team – Shannon, Osterson, Makala Kafer, N. Heupel, 52.59 seconds, third place
  • 4 X 200m relay – Shannon, Osterson, Kafer, N. Heupel, 1:51.68, third place
  • 4 X 400m relay – Katrina Heupel, N. Heupel, Kafer, Shannon, 4:27.43, third place
  • Sprint medley relay – Annie Twillie, K. Heupel, Osterson, N. Heupel, 1:59.12, third place
  • Distance medley relay – Gretah Johnson, Alexa Peters, Twillie, Grace Hardaway 5:14.51, sixth place
  • Discus throw – Emma Hoyle, 99’ 8”, fifth place
  • 100m dash – Kafer, 14.38 seconds, sixth place

Team scores for girls were Roland Story 130, Nevada 122, PCM 99, South Hamilton 83, Greene County 80, West Marshall 56, and Saydel 15.
