Area residents are invited to increase their knowledge of the trees that surround us while enjoying a walk at Spring Lake.
The Jefferson tree committee is hosting a Tree Walk Tuesday, May 4, at 2 pm at Spring Lake park on County Road P-33 at 195th St north of Highway 30, northwest of Grand Junction.
Four area tree experts – Greene County conservation director Dan Towers, Spring Lake park ranger Joe Allen, Brad Riphagen of Trees Forever, and Jefferson tree committee member Lynn Menz will lead the walk.
“We are all surrounded by trees. They grow near our houses, in our neighborhoods, and in our communities. They make up our habitat. How many of us, though, stop and look at the trees around us,” a tree committee spokesperson said.
The free Tree Walk is provide an opportunity to stop and notice trees. Participants will consider species (bark and leaves,) as well as growing conditions. “It is a chance to learn about trees while enjoying a walk in the spring air,” the spokesperson said.
There is no charge for the walk and no registration is required. Walkers should bring their tree-related questions and walking shoes. The walk will start at the lakeside shelter house, which can be seen from the main entrance to the park.
