Severe Weather Awareness Week is March 22 – 26. It will be observed in Greene County as emergency personnel prepare for the potential of emergency situations.
“Remember August 10, 2020,” advises Dennis Morlan, Greene County emergency management director.
The Iowa statewide tornado drill will take place Wednesday, March 24, at 11 am. The tornado drill will be “activated” by a special weekly radio test over NOAA Weather Radio (NWR).
In Greene County, tornado spotters will be notified to take their stations Wednesday at 10:45 am. The tornado drill will follow at 11 am.
“We encourage schools, businesses, and the public to practice their emergency/communication plans and procedures,” said Morlan. “It is vital to know and execute your plan when seconds count.”
In case of inclement weather, the test will be conducted on Thursday.
Statewide news media will cover topics each day:
- Monday – Severe thunderstorms
- Tuesday – Receiving warning information
- Wednesday – Tornadoes
- Thursday – Family preparedness
- Friday – Flash floods
