Covid vaccine available locally to those 65 and older

Persons age 65 and older may begin receiving Covid-19 vaccines in Greene County as soon as next week.

Greene County public health director Becky Wolf reports her department receives approximately 100 doses of the vaccine per week. She anticipates the first dose of vaccines will be provided to Greene County and Paton-Churdan school staff who want it by the end of this week.

She anticipates more doses will be available for persons age 65 and older on the public health waiting list. Persons in Tier 1B who haven’t yet put their names on a waiting list can visit https://hipaa.jotform.com/210254625890152, send an email to covid@gcmchealth.com, or call 515-386-0564.

She also reported Hy-Vee Pharmacy in Jefferson received its first shipment of vaccine this week and is accepting appointments. Medicap Pharmacy continues to take names for its waiting list.

“We ask for your continued patience and respect as we move through this monumental project, which could take months to complete,” Wolf said.

Wolf also reported that as of Wednesday, the 14-day positivity rate for Covid-19 testing in the county is 6.0 percent. One new case has been diagnosed in the previous 24 hours, four new cases have been diagnosed in the past three days, 13 in the past seven days, and 20 in the past 14 days. Overall, 752 county residents have been infected with Covid-19, with 79 currently active cases. Eight county residents have died from the illness.
