‘Meet Your Legislator’ slated for Feb. 13

The Thomas Jefferson Gardens board will again host “Meet Your Legislator” with the first one of this legislative session slated for Saturday, Feb. 13, at 10 am. The Thomas Jefferson Gardens board continues to provide this community service as Jefferson recognized the importance of an informed electorate. 

State Senator Jesse Green and Representative Phil Thompson, who represent Greene County in the Iowa legislature, have committed to attend the forum.

Green represents Senate District 24 which is composed of Greene, Boone, and Hamilton Counties, along with portions of Webster and Story County. He is a 5th generation Iowa farmer and resides on a farm near Harcourt. This is his first legislative session. He was appointed to the following committees: administrative rules review, agriculture, natural resources, veterans affairs, vice chair labor, education sub appropriations, ways and means, and human resources 


Thompson represents District 47 that encompasses Greene and most of Boone County. He is beginning his second legislative session and is a Jefferson native. He has been appointed to serve on the appropriations, economic growth, education, government vversight, veterans affairs, and chair of the economic development budget.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic this forum will be held via Facebook. Instructions on how to join will appear on the Thomas Jefferson Gardens Facebook page and web site.

Persons who want to be part of this social media event must find “Thomas Jefferson Gardens of Greene County” on Facebook and “like” the page.

They should go to the Facebook page Feb. 13 at 10 am and select “Live Feed”. The event will be recorded and remain available on the site after the event.

Rick Morain, retired editor of the Jefferson Bee and Herald, has once again graciously accepted to serve as the moderator for this Facebook interaction. Questions for the legislators may be submitted via Facebook, or to their email addresses to be answered individually at a later time.

This electronic interactive event will also be held the second Saturday of March and April at 10 am. If vaccines become readily available for the Greene County population these events will be open to the public in the future.
