Plenty of seasonal fun in Churdan

The Churdan library staff and trustees and the Churdan Lions are planning several holiday events.

The yearly fundraising auction will be online for 2020, with items up for auction posted to the library’s Facebook page Dec. 14-19.

Bidders can place their bids on the Facebook page or by calling the library. Appointments to see the auction items in person can also be made by calling the library at 515-389-3423. Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the Lions Club Santa drawing Dec. 19.

Donations of new (or very gently used) items, gift baskets, or homemade items will be accepted through Friday, Dec. 11.

The annual Lions Club Santa drawing will be held Saturday, Dec. 19, at John McCormick’s machine shed on Beecher St. Registration will begin at 12:30 pm with the drawing at 1. Attendees are encouraged to take advantage of plentiful parking to promote social distancing.

This year, the drawing will be for children birth to 12 years old; there will be no adult drawing. Santa will greet children for a socially safe distance. Santa cares about everyone’s safety and health and will not be available for lap pictures.

Persons who know of a family in need this Christmas can get word to the Lions by calling the library.

After the Santa drawing, Santa will lead a parade past the library to honor outgoing library board members Joyce Clark and Bobbie Miller. Current board members will pass out current board members and library staff. A basket will be available for cards of well wishes for Clark and Miller.

Finally, area residents are invited to “Flush Away 2020” by creating something fun with the empty tubes from rolls of toilet paper and/or paper towel. Contest entries can be festive or funny, large or small.

Contestants should send a picture of their entries via the library’s Facebook Messenger page. Entries are due Dec. 31. The first place winner will receive a package of toilet paper. Runners up will each receive a roll.
