Linda Anderson, the daughter of Robert M. and Helen E. (Ryan) Anderson, was born May 15, 1949, at Jefferson, and departed this life following a lengthy illness on November 29, 2020, at the Brio of Johnston Senior Living & Care Center in Johnston. Linda lived her life to the age of 71 years, 6 months and 14 days.
Linda’s parents lived in Des Moines and Linda attended Saydel High School in Des Moines. In the early 1970s, she moved to Churdan. On May 28, 1977, Linda Anderson was united in marriage to Larry Adams at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan. They made their home in the Churdan area and raised three children together, Shawn, Shane and Shannon. Linda and Larry were later separated.
Linda moved to Granger, where she and her best friend and partner of 22 years, Sid Hoyle, purchased a horse ranch together. She always had a passion for horses, family and holidays. She showed, raised and owned horses her entire life. She won awards on the state and national levels with some very outstanding Quarter horses that she raised and owned. She loved getting families started in the horse business and was a firm believer in the responsibility and maturity that it brought to their children. She was given the Adult Sportsmanship Award from the Iowa Quarter Horse Association for her generosity towards families and children in the horse industry. She dedicated several hours a day to teaching adults and children to care for and ride horses.
Linda was known to every child she ever met as Grandma Linda. She also loved her own family very much and enjoyed everything in which her children and grandchildren participated. She supported horse shows, go-karts, motorcycles, basketball, remote control cars, wrestling and school plays. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t be her children’s and grandchildren’s biggest fan. She loved her family so mush and that is what gave her love of holidays. They were her favorite times of the year and she always had the most beautifully decorated tree.
Linda is survived by Sid; her children Shane Adams and his wife Gwen of Plymouth, WI, Shawn Adams and his wife Leslie of Terril, and Shannon Vroegh and her finance Brent Walker of Grimes; grandchildren Mallory Vroegh, Brandon Adams and his wife Alana, Elya Adams, Nolan Adams and Mason Adams; great-grandchild Cadence Adams; and brother Ed Anderson and his wife Dena of Churdan. Those who preceded her in death were her parents and a brother, Bob Anderson.
Mass of the Christian burial was held Thursday, Dec. 3, at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger, with the Rev. Dominic Assim officiating and Dennis Wright serving as deacon. The organist was Kathy Wade and cantor was Larry Evans. Burial was made at the Highland Township Cemetery in Churdan.
