To the editor,
I was raised by a woman, Gertrude Jaeschke, who is buried at the Churdan Township Cemetery alongside her father, sister and her husband and a brother.
As I entered the cemetery last Saturday, 14Nov20, I was immediately drawn to the Veteran’s Memorial. What a wonderful tribute to those who served and what a great way to tell a portion of the cemetery’s story.
The memorial is beautiful and fitting and I’m struck by how many of the area’s sons and daughters, to include my uncle Theodore Sorensen a World War I veteran, have served.
Thank you for helping us to remember and honor those resting at the cemetery. And thanks to those to so lovingly tend to cemetery’s grounds. The devotion to the cemetery’s maintenance is a fitting tribute to both the living and the dead.
