National Retirement Security Month is nationally recognized in October to raise public awareness about the importance of saving for retirement.
State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald is using this opportunity to inform Iowans about the importance of planning for your future. “During this month, all Iowans should review their retirement savings goals, take necessary steps to build a retirement savings and ensure they are managing their funds in a way that allows them to live their golden years without financial stress,” Fitzgerald said. “I know it can be challenging to focus on savings during the coronavirus pandemic. However, we shouldn’t forget about planning for our future – it’ll be here before we know it.”
The awareness campaign was originally endorsed as National Retirement Security Week (Oct. 18 -24), but has grown to encompass the entire month of October. National Retirement Security Month provides an opportunity for employees to reflect on their personal retirement goals and determine if they are on target to reach those goals. “My office provides Iowans with personal financial literacy information on IowaTreasurer.gov and on social media,” Fitzgerald stated.
“The AARP website is another great resource when looking for planning and retirement information.” Visit IowaTreasurer.gov, click on the “For Citizens” tab and select “Financial Education and Empowerment” to view tools recommended by the Treasurer.
