Greene County got a big lift in a non-conference volleyball triangular on Sept. 22 with Panorama and South Central Calhoun in Rockwell City. Greene County defeated both teams in four sets. The Rams are now 4-7 overall.
Greene County won 25-22, 25-21 over the Panthers and 25-17, 25-23 against the Titans.
On the night, Lily Muir had eight kills and 10 digs. She was also 9/9 serving against Panorama. Brianna Osterson had four kills and 10 digs. Eliza Carlson posted 10 digs and went 12/13 serving against SCC. Natalie Heupel fired 9/9 serves in the Panorama match, and had 11 digs and four kills on the night. Katrina Heupel was 9/9 serving vs. SCC. Brianna Habben added four kills, one solo block and two assisted blocks.
Coach Chris Heisterkamp said, “For the majority of the night we had a good rhythm going. Even in the second set against SC Calhoun when we found ourselves down by several points, the girls did well to refocus, kept their composure, and came back for the win.”
The Rams host a triangular with SE Valley and Ogden Thursday, Oct. 1, beginning at 5 pm. The Ram invitational tournament postponed from Sept. 5 will be played Saturday, Oct. 3, beginning at 9 am. Both events are scheduled to take place in the new Greene County High School gymnasium.
Ram JV volleyball report – The Greene County varsity volleyball team’s match with South Hamilton Sept. 17 was rescheduled to Monday, Oct. 12, in the new gymnasium. They had no other action that week.
The junior varsity and JV 2 each had quadrangulars on Saturday, Sept. 19. JV2 went to Denison where they were 1-2 for the day, beating MVAO/COU and losing to Harlan and Underwood.
“Our setter wasn’t able to finish the day, so the other girls had to adjust quickly without this key player,” explained Heisterkamp. “They all stepped up, made some adjustments and worked together to keep going, pulling off the win in the last match of the day.”
The JV went to Burnside (SE Valley) and won all three of their matches, topping South Central Calhoun 25-10, 25-27, 15-10; Eagle Grove 25-10, 25-18 and SE Valley 25-17, 25-8.
Kill leaders were Analynn Baugh with 13, Paige Teeples 12 and Bella Schroeder 11. Top servers were Analynn Baugh 35/38; Kaylee Stalder 20/21; Alexa Peters 22/26, and Graci Cooklin 29/32.
