Greene County district court, week ending Sept. 18

In Greene County district court Eric Anthony Grevson, 28, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment Sept. 11 after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. He was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Grevson must pay a $315 civil penalty, up to $600 court costs for his court appointed attorney’s fees, and $140 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Michelle Ann Cook, 21, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment Sept. 11 after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. She was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. Cook must pay a $315 civil penalty and $141.90 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Michael C. McAtee, 58, of Grand Junction was sentenced to 15 years in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of disorderly conduct, amended from domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. The jail time was suspended and he was placed on informal probation to the Greene County sheriff’s office for one year. He was fined $65 with a $9.75 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay up to $600 court costs and $163.80 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Justin Joe Downs, 34, of Churdan was sentenced to five days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily injury. The jail terms are consecutive to terms in three other Greene County cases. He was fined $315 with a $47.25 surcharge. On a charge of criminal mischief- third degree Downs was fined $625 with a $93.75 surcharge. A charge of theft- fourth degree was dismissed. Downs must pay restitution for his court appointed fees not to exceed $600. Court costs were $151. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Robert John Mobley, 36, of Jefferson was sentenced to six months in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. All but two days of the jail sentence was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. His driver’s license was revoked for 180 days. Mobley was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Dakota Bradley Barrett, 20, of Dayton was sentenced to two years in prison on each of two charges of theft- third degree, with the terms consecutive. The prison terms were suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for two years. He must reside at a residential correctional facility until maximum benefit is attained. Barrett was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge on each count; the fines and surcharges were suspended. He must pay $183.25 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $452.93 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Michael Marlin Matthews, 24, of Topeka, KS, assault on persons in certain occupation; and Jeremy William Roper, 36, of Churdan, OWI- first offense. Matthews’ trial date was set for Nov. 3. Roper’s trial date was set for Dec. 8. Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending Nov. 18 as follows: Justin Michael Cosnotti, 35, of Jefferson, harassment- first degree and tampering with witness; and Nicholas Weber, 20, of Jefferson, manufacture or possess of marijuana with intent to deliver, failure to affix tax stamp, and obstructing prosecution.
