It is with disappointment that the Varceis Club in Scranton announces the cancellation of its annual salad luncheon. It has been a long standing tradition to serve their delicious home-made salads with ham balls and rolls in the fellowship hall of the Scranton United Methodist Church on Thursday at noon in the first week or two of September.
However, with the format guests are accustomed to and the size of the building, COVID-19 social distancing would be next to impossible. There are other obstacles as well. First and foremost is the safety of club members and their guests.
Money raised at the salad luncheon was used for community betterment projects in the Scranton area. Those groups will miss the funding.
