Hot August Night provides bit of normalcy

The Covid-19 pandemic is making 2020 a year of minimalized or absent events, including summer events folks look forward to year-round.

Hot August Night, held Thursday in Jefferson, is a favorite summer event that came close to “normal.” Showcase vehicles from virtually every decade surrounded the courthouse.

There were fewer of them and fewer people strolling to see them, no Peoples Choice awards and no trophies.

But, Jefferson Matters/Chamber served a barbecue, the Does sold pie, the veterans served walking tacos, and people set lawn chairs under the large shade trees that surround the century-old courthouse.

Even sitting in the shade was just a little different, though. The derecho that devastated the Highway 30 corridor and more took out the largest shade tree on the south side of the courthouse.
