In Greene County district court Rick Eugene Tuhn, 59, of Jefferson was sentenced to 10 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. Julie Ann Bentz, 20, of Jefferson was granted a deferred judgment after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. She was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. She must also pay a $315 civil penalty and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)’
Jacob R. Vreugdenhil, 23, of Grand Junction was sentenced to one year in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. All but three days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Corrections for two years. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge. Court costs were $100 in that case.
Vreugdenhil was charged with driving while license barred in a second case. The charge was dismissed. He was also charged in that case with possession of a firearm suppressor. He was granted a deferred judgment. He must pay a civil penalty of $625. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)
James Pena, 22, of Jefferson was sentenced to 30 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury. He must complete the Iowa domestic to abuse program. He was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge and a $100 domestic abuse assault surcharge. Court costs were $100. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Teresa Ann Turner, 40, of Bayard was sentenced to one year in jail after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and she was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. She must complete a community college drinking drivers school at her own expense. She may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time and the drinking drivers school. She was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge; one -half will be waived if she obtained a temporary restricted license.
Turner was also charged with possession of methamphetamine. She was sentenced to two days in jail on that charge, concurrent to the jail term on the OWI charge. She was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge. Court costs were $100. A companion case in magistrate court in which Turner was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia was dismissed with court costs assessed to the state. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Christopher Hollis Christian, 39, of Fort Dodge, driving while license barred; Adam Joseph Harvey, 44, of Grand Junction, theft- fourth degree; Megan Janea Tingwald, 46, of Perry, possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense; Nathaniel Clark Aldrich, 32, of Jefferson, driving while license barred; Courtney Kern, 34, of Jamaica, driving while license barred; Mason Edward Burkett, 21, of Grand Junction, operating while intoxicated; and Juan Angel Guzman, 33, of Jefferson, domestic abuse assault impeding blood/air flow. Trial dates were set for Sept. 29 for every defendant.
Cases were initiated as follows: Ryan Douglas Patterson, 39, of Jefferson, assault while displaying dangerous weapon and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident; and Justin Michael Cosnotti, 35, of Jefferson, possession of a firearm while subject to a protective order.
