Ram softball lost their seventh consecutive game on Thursday, July 2, to the South Hamilton Hawks. The final score was 11-1 in a game shortened by the 10-run rule.
On the mound, freshman Emma Hoyle turned in a complete, 4-1/3 innings game. Hoyle allowed eight earned runs and three unearned runs on the mound. She gave up 11 hits while walking three batters and striking out another.
At the plate, the Rams had a rather positive game despite being largely unable to score runs. As a team, the Rams collected seven hits, all singles. Hoyle was able to put her rough night on the mound behind her each time she stepped to the plate, turning in three singles and driving in the Rams’ lone run of the game. Senior Kyla Beyers added two singles of her own while senior Izzy Bravard added one single and scored the Rams’ only run.
In the field, the Rams committed four errors, all of which came in the infield.
Despite a decent showing at the plate, all things considered, the Rams had a game they will likely want to forget. They fell behind early as the South Hamilton Hawks scored three in the bottom of the first inning. The Hawks added another to put the Rams down by a score of 4-0 after two innings. The Rams were able to get one run back on a Hoyle single in the top of the third inning. That’s as close as the Rams would get though, as the Hawks put up five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The game was called by way of the “Mercy Rule” after just one out in the bottom of the fifth inning with the Rams falling by a score of 11-1.
The Rams will look to end their losing streak at home against a strong Gilbert Tigers team on Friday, July 3.
