A peaceful oasis has been created over the years by Mark and Marilyn Lane at their home at 506 W. Harrison St, the July 2020 Jefferson Garden Club Yard of the Month. Beautiful roses line the walk to the front door of the home where the couple has lived for more than 35 years.
Under the shade of several large mature trees, a lush hosta garden anchors the west lawn of the home. For over ten years, the couple has selected and tended the mature bed of a variety of different hostas. This year, following his retirement, Mark has rebuilt the block edging around this and all of the flower beds in their yard.
Marilyn has located cheery red petunias to brighten the sunny areas of the yard along with peonies, sedum and a new baptisia plant. An ornamental Japanese maple and a family heirloom crab tree add structural interest to the landscape.
A secluded deck and patio offer a relaxing setting to enjoy the fruits of their labors and savor the tomatoes growing in a raised vegetable bed nearby.
