Ram baseball lost in heartbreaking fashion to the Saydel Eagles on Wednesday, July 1.
On the mound, Brent Riley had what is arguably his strongest game of the season. Riley allowed two unearned runs and zero earned runs in a complete, seven-inning game. He gave up just three hits while walking one batter, hitting another and striking out five more.
At the plate, the Rams had a strong game with seven hits, all singles, getting hit by one pitch and earning one walk. With no standout performers, Riley was likely the team’s best player offensively on Wednesday. Riley scored the Rams’ only run of the game and stole two bases on the back of his one-hit game. Other Rams to collect a hit were Bryce Stalder, Brayden Roberts, Cayden Lowmiller, Peyton Kinsey, Joe Carey and Nick Breon, who made his return from injury. The Rams had no RBI on the evening.
The Rams committed three errors on the evening, which proved costly as both Saydel runs were unearned.
The Saydel Eagles were able to jump to an early lead by scoring one run in each of the first and second innings. The Rams were able to bring the game within one in the bottom of the fourth inning off of savvy baserunning from Riley and Brayden Roberts to score Riley. The Rams threatened late with the bases loaded and two outs but were unable to score the run as the inning ended on a groundout. The Rams lost this game by a score of 2-1.
The Rams will continue to search for their first win of the season as they take on the South Hamilton Hawks on the road on Thursday, July 2.
