In Greene County district court Richard Dean Finch, 84, of Jefferson was sentenced May 25 to one year in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- first offense. All but two days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on informal probation to the county sheriff for one year. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and undergo any recommended treatment at his own expense. He must also complete a community college drinking drivers course. Finch was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted driver’s license. He must pay a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education. Dakota Bradley Barrett, 20, of Dayton was sentenced to two years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of theft- third degree. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for one year to the Iowa Department of Corrections. If he eventually serves the prison sentence it will be consecutive to the term in another Greene County case. Barrett was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative (LEI) surcharge. Court costs were $144.20. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Michelle Ann Cook, 20, of Jefferson, pleaded not guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. A trial date was set for Sept. 29.
Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending May 28 as follows: Charity Leann Snavely, 39, of Grand Junction, supplying alcohol to persons under legal age; Julie Ann Wells, 53, of Auburn, possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense (three counts), and unlawful possession of prescription drugs (two counts); Megan Janet Tingwald, 45, of Perry, possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense; and Samir Hasimovic, 39, of Johnston, criminal mischief- third degree.
