The criteria for COVID-19 testing as part of the Test Iowa initiative will be expanded as of Thursday evening.
Gov Kim Reynolds announced at her daily press briefing that anyone who thinks they should be tested will be able to schedule an appointment. Until now, Test Iowa test sites have been available only to Iowans with symptoms, those who have been exposed to COVID-19, and essential workers.
Reynolds advised waiting until Friday morning to complete the assessment at TestIowa.com. Persons will then receive information about scheduling a test and a QR code. Persons who don’t have access to a computer should ask a relative or trusted friend with access for help.
“Iowa is continuing to move forward. Gradually we are beginning to step back into life as normal. Things aren’t exactly the same as they were, but it feels familiar, and that’s a welcome change,” Reynolds said. “The reality is things will need to be different for a while. COVID-19 can’t be eliminated. We can’t prevent people from getting it, but it can be managed if we all continue to take personal responsibility and do the right things to protect our health and the health of others.”
As of Thursday afternoon, the Iowa Department of Public Health has reported 16,047 cases of COVID-19 and 405 deaths.
One new case was reported in Greene County, bringing the total to 14.
