The first drive-through public distribution of face masks in the COVER Greene County mask initiative will be held Thursday, May 21, from 5 to 6:30 pm in the Trinity Lutheran Church parking lot, 801 W. Lincoln Way, in Jefferson. There is no charge for the masks.
More than 250 face masks are available to hand out on a first-come, first-served basis. Only one mask will be given for each family member. Persons should plan to remain in their vehicles.
The Greene County board of health is coordinating the COVER Greene County mask initiative to assure that all county residents have access to a face mask. The Greene County public health department, the Iowa Department of Public Health, and the Centers for Disease Control recommend that all persons older than 2 years wear a face mask in public, particularly when a social distance of 6 feet cannot be maintained.
Persons who are unable to pick up masks May 21 can contact Annie Smith at 515-313-2772 or smitann23@gmail.com to set up a time to get masks.
Persons who would like to donate masks, fabric and supplies, or cash to benefit the initiative can contact Smith as well. Donations of masks can be taken to Greene County public health. Use the west clinic entrance at Greene County Medical Center.
