In Greene County district court Jenniffer Kaye Jane Barkalow, 28, of Marshalltown was sentenced May 8 to seven days in jail after she changed her plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- second offense. The jail term was suspended and she was placed on informal probation for one year. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. Barkalow was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; both were suspended. She must pay a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE) and a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative (LEI) surcharge. Dakota Neil Bishop, 27, of Jefferson was sentenced to five years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of forgery. The prison term was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. Bishop was fined $750 with a $262.50 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay a $125 LEI surcharge and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Brent Tracy Stoner, 56, of Jefferson was sentenced to one year in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated- second offense. All but seven days of the jail term was suspended. He was placed on probation to Greene/Boone County probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of two days of the jail time. Stoner was fined $1,875 with a $656.25 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. He must also pay a $10 DARE surcharge and $100 court costs. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: James Kenneth Harris, 33, of Woodward, possession of methamphetamine; Kaleb Lee Lentz, 25, of Scranton, driving while license revoked; Jacob R. Vreugdenhil, 53, of Grand Junction, driving while license barred; Julie Diane Mulder, 50, of Jefferson, OWI- first offense; James Pena, 22, of Jefferson, child endangerment; and James Leon Cunningham, 45, of Jefferson, unauthorized use of credit less than $1,500. Trial dates were set for July 21 in every case.
Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Elizabeth Celine Fischers, 31, of Webster City has been charged with possession of methamphetamine. The warrant was issued March 18 and returned May 5.
