The design team of Jefferson Matters: Main Street invites volunteers to plant the planters and hanging baskets in downtown Jefferson using a plan that allows for social distancing. The design team works with the city of Jefferson to plant the 12 pillar planters, eight sets of cluster planters, and 32 hanging baskets for summer with petunias, sweet potato vines and marigolds.
The date for planting the pillar planters and cluster planters will be Tuesday, May 12, anytime from 10 am and 4 pm. The plants would be beside the planters so the volunteers can do the planting.
On Wednesday, May 13, there will be two work sessions for a limited number of volunteers at the city shed to plant the hanging baskets. These will be at 10 and 11 am. The city street crew will have the soil in the baskets and will hang them as in the past.
The design team invites volunteers to sign up on the Google Docs link for specific planters they are willing to plant. If people want to partner with someone they feel comfortable working with, that is fine. All volunteers should bring their own tools, gloves, step stools, etc. and plan to take care of debris from planting.
The city street department will continue to water the flowers daily and volunteers take care of the weekends.
