COVID cases top 5,000 in Iowa

As the Iowa Department of Public Health predicted, the number of positive cases of COVID-19 in increasing with Test Iowa sites opening and additional surveillance testing of large businesses and nursing home staff continues.

The IDPH reported 648 additional cases during the 24 hours ending April 24 at 10 am. That brings the total number of cases in Iowa to 5,092. There were 1,730 negative tests for a total of 29,258 negative tests to date. One in 91 Iowans have been tested.

There were five additional deaths: an adult age 41-60 in Black Hawk County; an adult age 61-80 in Johnson County; an adult age 61-80 and an adult age 81 or older in Polk County; and an adult age 81 or older in Scott County.
