John “Jim” James Anderson, son of John and Grace (Ferguson) Anderson, was born July 13, 1931, in Bagley. He would want you to know that he was 1,065 months old. Jim passed away April 18, 2020, in his family home, surrounded by his children and wife.
Jim graduated from Bagley High School and attended auctioneer school. He has two children from his first marriage, Lynn and John. In 1973, Jim found the love of his life, Frankey Bartley (however, you would have always heard him yell “JOSEPHINE” when he wanted her attention) and was blessed with three more children: Rodney, Carrie and Tracy.
Around March 10, 1952, Jim was drafted into the US Army. He served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 and was honorably discharged. Jim worked as a farm hand at Garst and Thomas Seed Company in Coon Rapids, as well as Farmers Hybrid in Perry. Later Jim retired from Greene County secondary roads.
Jim loved horses. He bred paint horses for many years. He and Frankey traveled to Shawnee, OK, to attend horse sales and spent many Saturday nights taking their kids to various horse shows and rodeos. Jim also loved to visit the casinos and enjoyed gambling. He had a basket of handheld poker games next to his chair. Every morning his grandchildren would be woken up with the “ding-ading-ding” of those games in the wee morning hours.
Jim was a hard worker and instilled that ethic into his children. He was meticulous and liked to have order in his things. If you went to the barn and dragged something out, you better have put it away, or you were going to hear about it. If you left a light bulb on in your room, he took it.
Jim was ornery! If he was picking on you, he liked you. He had nicknames for most of his grandchildren, some not so appropriate. Jim was always using his auctioneer voice to sing songs. Some of those songs were also not so appropriate. He enjoyed passing them down to the younger generation, which may have gotten one of those grandchildren in trouble in kindergarten when she shared that song for show and tell (Abby)!
Jim is one of a kind and will be missed dearly. He is survived by his wife Frankey; brother Jack (Delores) Anderson of Jefferson; and children Lynn (Tom) Anear of Wyoming, John (Jill) Anderson of Huxley, Carrie (James) Taylor of Jefferson and Tracy (Lance) Degeneffe of Ogden; grandchildren Kay and Julie Anderson, Andrew Annear, Amber (Brandon) Godwin, Justin and Courtney Gymer, Seth, Shane, Dalton, Caeddance, Logan Butler, Tiffany (Justin) Murphy, Brooke and Austin (Karissa) Taylor, Abby Delp, Trent Ganoe, Amber and Dominic Degenefe; 15 great-grandchildren; and very special friends Mark and Jan Clouse.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jerry, and his son Rodney.
Due to CDC regulations a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.sliningerschroeder.com.
