Greene County public health announced Monday morning that a case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Greene County. According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, the individual is 41-60 years of age and is self-isolating at home.
“While this is Greene County’s first case, it may not be the last,” said Greene County director of public health Becky Wolf. “We encourage all residents to continue to make prevention a priority.”
Residents should wash their hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds each time; cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or elbow/upper arm; and stay home with they’re ill.
Wolf repeated guidance that has been released previously. Approximately 80 percent of those infected with COVID-19 will experience only a mild to moderate illness. Most mildly ill persons do not need to go to their healthcare provider to be tested or confirm they have COVID-19. Sick Iowans must stay home and isolate themselves from others in their household. Persons who think they need to see their healthcare provider should call first. The provider will assess if the patient needs to be seen.
