The Greene County girls basketball team picked up its second win this season over winless Saydel, topping the Eagles 45-23 on Friday. The girls were unable to post much offense in losses against Gilbert 70-9 on Monday; Nevada 57-13 on Tuesday; and Carroll 77-9 on Saturday.
The Rams enter Regional tournament action on Saturday, Feb. 15, when they play Southeast Valley in Gowrie at 5 pm.
Gilbert 70 ~ Rams 9
Greene County sputtered all night, recording only nine points against Gilbert in a 70-9 loss. The Rams put three points on the board in each of the first three quarters while the Tigers pounded away with 27, 19, 17 and seven for a total of 70 points.
Sadie Wilson made two three-pointers for six points and pulled down five rebounds to lead the Rams. Brianna Habben added two points, four rebounds and Eliza Carlson had one point. The team tallied 13 rebounds.
Nevada 57 ~ Rams 13
Nevada handled Greene County posting leads of 18-3, 38-6 and 49-12 before winning 57-13. The Cubs broke a five-game losing streak with the victory.
Izzy Bravard scored six points to lead GC. Brianna Osterson grabbed eight rebounds and Brianna Habben had seven boards.
The Rams made just four of 24 field goals for 17 percent while the Cubs sank 25 of 58. Nevada outrebounded GC 30-21. They had 14 assists and 22 steals while the Rams had one and three respectively.
Rams 45 ~ Saydel 23
Tied 12-12 in the second quarter, Greene County reeled off 11 straight points to lead Saydel 23-12 at halftime but a scoreless third period for the Rams allowed the Eagles to get back into the game, down by just three, 23-20, going into the final frame. GC fired up the nets for 22 points in the fourth while holding Saydel to three points to win 45-23.
Izzy Bravard led the team with 15 points, followed by 13 from Brianna Osterson and 10 by Brianna Habben. Osterson grabbed 16 rebounds and Habben blocked nine Eagle shots.
The Rams made four treys, 10 two-pointers and 13 of 17 freethrows and recorded 34 rebounds.
Carroll 77 ~ Rams 9
Another cold night indoors for Greene County led to another thumping, this time at the hands of Carroll 77-9. The Tigers blistered the nets for 55 points in the first half while the Rams scored just three. While the continuous clock ticked away in the second half, Carroll reserves added 22 points and GC made six more for the final 77-9 score.
Izzy Bravard scored six points. Sadie Wilson, Brianna Habben and Bravard each pulled down three rebounds.
The Rams attempted just 24 baskets, making two and went five of 10 at the line. They tallied 15 rebounds and 31 turnovers.
