Roland-Story, the seventh-ranked basketball team in Class 3A, stormed past the Greene County girls 76-11 in Jefferson on Friday, Dec. 20.
The Norsemen held leads of 16-3, 41-7 and 64-11 after three periods. A continuous clock was run through the second half and benches were cleared in the fourth quarter.
Izzy Bravard was high scorer for the Rams with six points. She also topped the team with seven rebounds. Sadie Wilson added three points and five boards.
The Rams were only able to get off 28 shots, making three for 11 percent. They were four of eight at the charity stripe and grabbed 23 rebounds. R-S made 44 percent of their shots and hit 11 three-pointers.
The Norsemen improve to 7-1 on the season. Greene County (0-6) will look for their first win in the new year.
In the second game of the twin bill, Greene County boys suffered their sixth loss of the season, falling to Roland-Story 75-54.
The Rams fell behind early with a first quarter deficit of 10-17. Trailing 20-15 in the second period, the Rams gave up 11 points while scoring just one. At halftime they were down by 16 points, 39-23. The Norsemen continued to fire away, taking a 60-35 lead into the final frame.
Carter Morton led the Rams with 15 points, including three treys, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals. Bryce Stalder added 13 points with three baskets from behind the arc.
The Rams struggled to get shots to fall, making 32 percent from the field. They made just 10 treys out of 36 attempts.
R-S had four players in double figures, shooting 54 percent. They also ruled the boards, topping the Rams 42-26 in rebounds.
Greene County will start the new year 1-6, 0-5 in Heart of Iowa Conference action.
