Ogden dual tournament
Greene County had an excellent day at Saturday’s Ogden duals wrestling tournament. The Rams went 4-0 in Pool B, advancing to the championship match against Pool A winner Humboldt. The Wildcats claimed the overall title with a 51-27 victory over Greene County, who went 4-1 on the day and is 7-3 in dual meets for the season. The Wildcats improved to 11-0 in duals.
McKinley Robbins at 106, Nathan Black at 145 and Will Hansen at 152 each went 5-0 on Saturday.
Robbins, a freshman, won an exciting 10-4 decision over Humboldt senior Cole Nelson, ranked third in Class 2A, and a top 12 finisher at the 2019 State Tournament. Robbins trailed 3-0 early in period two, but rallied to go ahead 6-4 with time running out in the match and the wrestlers in the neutral position when a desperation takedown attempt by Nelson resulted in a four-point move for Robbins as the match ended. Robbins is now 12-1 on the season. The loss was the first this season for Nelson, who was 14-0 prior to meeting Robbins.
Freshman Emma Hoyle made Ram wrestling history by taking part in the Des Moines East girls’ tournament, marking the first time the Rams sent an entry to a girls’ only tourney. She won by fall in her first match, then lost 11-9 to go 1-1 in matches and finish second in her bracket at 145 lbs. Hoyle is the only girl on the Ram wrestling team.
