Beatrice H. Schilling Freeman, 94, of Jefferson, formerly of Boxholm, died November 16, 2019, at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson.
Beatrice Harvey Schilling was born January 18, 1925, south of Cooper, daughter of Dewey A. Schilling and Grace I. (Harvey) Schilling. She attended Cooper Consolidated School and graduated with the class of 1943. She attended and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1947, then taught at Nemaha Consolidated School until her marriage on September 18, 1949, to Richard L. Freeman. The couple lived and farmed south of Boxholm for many years before moving to Jefferson in 2006. Richard died in 2007.
Besides being a busy farm wife and mother, she was active in the local PTA while her children were in school. She also assisted her children while they were members of 4-H. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid and women’s group in Boxholm. Other memberships included the Alpha Study Federated Women’s Club of Boxholm and PEO Chapter CZ of Jefferson. While living in Jefferson, Beatrice attended Christ Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children Randy (Ruth) Freeman of Jefferson, Nanci (Ron) Galloway of Union, Marilyn (Bob) Masters of Tigard, OR, and John (Teri) Freeman of Boxholm; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Dorothy Henrichs of Boxholm; brother-in-law J.B. Blough of Tucson, AZ; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
She in preceded in death by her husband Richard; parents Dewey and Grace Schilling; siblings Frances Safley, Betty Larson, Bonnie Blough, and Dewey Schilling Jr; and brothers-in-law Bob Safley, Duane Larson, and Leon Henrichs.
Funeral services were held Nov. 20 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 2nd St, Boxholm. Burial was at Lawn Cemetery, Boxholm.
The family was assisted by Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home of Jefferson.
