Lions Club – The Rippey Lions Club opened its meeting with a potluck meal. During the business meeting, they finalized plans for the pancake breakfast on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Rippey United Methodist Church from 8-11 am.
Dick Bardole presented the program about Iowa composer and band leader, Karl King. The next regular meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 21, at 7 pm.
You never know who or how someone has been touched by something so common as a meal provided by a church. In 1985, when Velda DeMoss had the idea of feeding the Central College football team, little would she have guessed how much an impact it has made on total strangers.
My neighbor Virgene Morse received this note recently and with the permission of Lori Fegley of Cedar Falls, I can share with the church members and other Rippey people who have been a part of this tradition.
Dear Virgene,
My name is Lori Fegley and I taught kindergarten in LaPorte City with Dee (Virgene’s daughter, Delores Blanshan). We had lots of fun together and we continue to get together for lunch as often as we can.
Our family all attended Central College. My husband and I continue to follow Central College football, attending most of the games. I wanted to say thank you to your church for providing a meal to the team as they travel back to Pella from Storm Lake. That is such a special tradition that has gone on for many years. Thank you for sharing God’s love with the Central football team. ~ Lori Fegley
