No progress on getting post office re-opened

It’s been a year since the Scranton Post Office was closed due to what postal officials stated as “safety concerns.” It appears that Scranton is no closer to getting the office open again than they were a year ago.
The CPUs (cluster box units) and blue drive up drop box were moved on Monday to the south side of the former post office in what was once the drive through area. Post office box customers have been assigned a CPU box and mail is picked up daily from the drop box.
Kristy L Anderson, strategic communications specialist for USPS in Minneapolis, MN, replied in an email to The Scranton Journal that “I do not have any further status from what I provided in June. I have reached out to facilities to see if there is an update and will let you know.
“Being a leased facility, we try to work with the landlord to make the necessary repairs,” added Anderson. “If that fails, we have to request approval for an alternate quarters search and once approved, that process can take up to 24 months to complete.”
The leased building formerly used by USPS in Scranton is owned by Larry Barr.
