The Greene County Youth Athletic Association (GCYAA) board reminds parents that registration for 2019 youth wrestling and basketball is now open and will close Nov. 3. Registration is online and can be completed at www.gcyaa.org. Parents will need to create a profile for youngsters who haven’t previously registered for a GCYAA program; profiles are saved for returning athletes.
The Rambler Wrestling Club is a competitive wrestling program for boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade. The GCYAA program is designed to teach skills appropriate for each level, build upon those skills, and encourage growth that prepares wrestlers for the next level.
Practices will be Tuesday and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 pm at The Fieldhouse, 200 S. Chestnut St, Jefferson.
The cost is $40 per month or $150 paid in full, with a discount for multiple participants in a family. Payment plans are available, and the Rotary Club of Jefferson has provided GCYAA with scholarship funds for youngsters with financial need. The Ram Attack basketball program is open to boys and girls in grades 4-6 who want to compete on a travel team against other area community teams. This is a step up from Ram Ballers as focus will be more on team offensive and defensive concepts, although there will also be continued work on learning proper skills.
Youngsters interested in playing in the Ram Attack basketball program should plan to attend a workout session Sunday, Nov. 3, at Greene County Middle School. Girls will meet from 1:30 to 3 pm and boys will meet from 3:15 to 4:45pm.
At the workouts, coaches and players will go over various skills and concepts that will be used during the basketball season. Teams will be formed after the workouts based on skill and level of play in each grade. All youngsters who participate in the workouts will be placed on a team, but playing time will not be equal. A minimum of eight youngsters are needed to field a team.
There is no charge for the Nov. 3 workout.
Fees for Ram Attack basketball are $100 for fourth grade girls and boys, and $115 for fifth and sixth grade girls and boys. The fee includes tournament costs, uniforms, and a club fee. Fees may be paid in full or monthly.
