History Boy Theatre of Jefferson will host actress and playwright Diana Star Helmer in her one-woman show, I Like Mamie: Ike’s First Lady Friday, Nov. 1.
The play imagines First Lady Mamie Doud Eisenhower visiting her birthplace of Boone, IA, to stump for her husband’s 1956 re-election. Helmer’s script is based on documented quotes and events from the Eisenhower’s life together, which included two World Wars, family tragedy, alleged scandal, and Ike’s first term in office.
I Like Mamie begins at 7 pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students age 18 and younger. They are available at the door or from History Boy Theatre.
