Longtime Jefferson physician Dr. Lawrence “Larry Doc” Marshall, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 1, 2019, at the Greene County Medical Center.
He was beloved and respected by his family, friends and community for a life defined by intelligence, compassion and integrity.
Lawrence Lynn Marshall was raised and attended high school in Colfax, IA. As an undergraduate at the University of Iowa, he met and married Ms. Audrey Thomas in 1958. He would go on to earn his MD in 1960.
Dr. Marshall’s practice in Jefferson spanned 40 years of practice, where he cared for the community including the delivery of countless babies. Dr. Marshall provided care at the Greene County Medical Center, the former Jefferson Clinic, and the McFarland Clinic. Dr. Marshall retired from practice in 2005.
Doc was also an aficionado of classical music, hunting and fishing, playing cards, and hosting friends and family at their lot on Lake Panorama. In his boat was a plaque declaring, “When all else fails, try doing what the captain first suggested…”
Larry is preceded in death by his father and mother, sister Marilyn, and daughter Linda.
Dr. Marshall is survived by his wife Audrey of 61 years; sons Lane (Tina) Marshall of Florida, Loren Marshall of Colorado, and Lee (Rhiannon) Marshall of Nebraska; and four grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life was held at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson on Sept. 8.
