Jefferson police captain Heath Enns reports that although the National Night Out events planned for Aug. 6 didn’t work out, the Taser demonstration will still take place.
The Taser demonstration is now slated for Friday, Sept. 13, during halftime of the Ram varsity football game.
Enns clarifies that anyone who meets certain health requirements can participate in a voluntary exposure to a Taser. A signed waiver form is required.
For the Sept. 13 Taser demonstration, 10 persons have agreed to take a volunteer exposure in a controlled environment. Only one of them will be tased, with the “winner” being the person for whom the most money is donated. On the ballot are Emily Gannon, Zach Beekman, Scott Johnson, Brian Phillips, Tyler Westhoff, Chris Deal, Carl Behne, Simeon Lang, Jamie Daubendiek and Andy McGinn.
McGinn was in the lead as of Aug. 2, with $132.30 donated to see him tased. Daubendiek was in second place with $62 and Phillips was in third place with $46.
The donation box is located in the produce section at HyVee and will be there through Sept. 12 at 12 pm.
