The National Weather Service has upgraded counties as nearby as Dallas from an excessive heat watch to an excessive heat warning.
The Weather Service reports a heat wave will settle in Wednesday through Saturday, with Thursday and Friday likely to be the hottest.
There won’t be much a cool-down at night, as lows are predicted in the mid 70s to 80 degrees.
The high heat and humidity will result in heat index values of 105-110 degrees.
Iowans are reminded to avoid prolonged exposure to the heat and limit time outdoors; to stay hydrated; and to LOOK BEFORE YOU LOCK a vehicle to be sure there are no children or pets left behind.
