Greene County softball took St. Mary’s of Storm Lake to the woodshed Monday night, scoring 18 runs in just three innings and picking up the Rams’ ninth win of the season, 18-1.
Emma Hoyle pulled double duty, picking up the pitching win and driving in four runs from the plate, while Jenna and Kyla Beyers each drove in three. The Rams had five doubles — a season high — with the Beyers, Karissa Stephenson, Hoyle and Emma Stream recording the extra base hits.
The Rams are now 9-17 on the season.
Meanwhile, the baseball team fell short Monday in a non-conference game, losing to Southeast Valley (Gowrie) by a score of 5-2.
Tyler Teeples took the pitching loss for the Rams, giving up three earned runs and three walks. He had eight strikeouts.
The Rams recorded four hits, and Nick Breon hit the team’s first home run of the season in the first inning. The Rams were undone by four errors, which granted the Jaguars two runs.
Now 8-17 on the season, Greene County plays Tuesday night against Denison-Schleswig on the road.
