A close game Monday night ended with a Greene County softball win over the Nevada Cubs in Nevada.
The Rams were down 4-0 after two innings but scored two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to hold a 6-4 lead. The Cubs put up a run in the sixth to move within one, but after the Rams went scoreless in the top of the seventh the Cubs were unable to claim a lead in the bottom of the frame.
Emma Hoyle pitched all seven innings, recording three Ks and walking two batters. She allowed five hits; three of the Cubs’ runs were earned.
The Rams recorded eight hits, six of which came from Megan Carey and Izzy Bravard, who had three apiece. Hoyle and Emma Stream had the other hits for the Rams, with Hoyle leading Greene County with two RBIs.
The Rams overcame six defensive errors to move up to 7-15 on the season, with a 4-7 record in the Heart of Iowa Conference.
The baseball team also won 6-4 against the Cubs.
The Rams had 11 hits on the night, with Austin Delp, Joe Anderson, Clayton Smith and Carter Morton each recording two hits. Tyler Teeples, winning pitcher Brent Riley and Nick Breon recorded one hit each. Greene County is now 6-16 on the season.
The Rams learned Monday that they’ll be in Class 3A Substate 2 with Perry, Ballard (Huxley), Boone, Algona, Gilbert, Webster City and Humboldt. Postseason play for Class 3A begins July 19, and by then the Rams will know who is in their four-team district.
The Ram teams host the Roland-Story Norse Tuesday.
