After rainouts on Tuesday, the Greene County softball team faced a doubleheader with PCM. The Rams got a split in the doubleheader, winning their fifth game of the season in the process.
The first game was the completion of a suspended contest from May, in which the Rams were down 3-1 when the game was stopped due to rain.
The game’s resumption saw the Mustangs hold onto their lead and add a run to win 4-1.
Jenna Beyers pitched the rest of the game and gave up just one hit. Megan Carey, Carmyn Paup, Karissa Stephenson and Beyers had the Rams’ four hits.
Emma Hoyle picked up a pitching win in the second game of the night, pitching all seven innings and allowing seven hits. She gave up two earned runs and contributed massively at the plate with two hits and an RBI.
Carey and Paup contributed two hits each as well, with Stephenson and Izzy Bravard adding hits as well. Tieryn Tucker had a two-RBI single in the game.
The Rams are 5-15 and 3-7 in conference play. Up next is a game Thursday against St. Edmond in Fort Dodge.
The Rams’ baseball squad hadn’t played since Saturday, with rain canceling games on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday, however, the Rams were able to play a doubleheader against PCM. The games didn’t go well for Greene County though, as the Mustangs swept the Rams by scores of 6-5 and 2-0.
Brent Riley took a pitching loss in the opening game, after three errors in the bottom of the seventh helped PCM score five runs to hand Greene County the defeat. The Rams had more hits than the Mustangs in the first game, with Joe Anderson, Austin Delp, Nick Breon and Carter Morton recording two hits apiece. Bryce Stadler had one hit and an RBI.
In game two, a stout pitching performance from PCM saw the Rams record just two hits all game long — a pair of singles from Tyler Teeples and Morton. Delp was the losing pitcher for the Rams, though the senior struck out 12 batters and gave up no earned runs.
After the losses, Greene County is now 5-14 and 2-9 in conference play. The Rams don’t play until Saturday in Carroll.
