Rippey library news
~by Phyllis Bardole, librarian
We have added several new books. There are more on order and also a new DVD. Someone donated newer Danielle Steel books also. We thank those who continually remember the library with their donations.
Summer Reading will start June 25 from 2 – 3 pm each Tuesday afternoon with the last one on July 16. The sessions will include kindergarten – fifth grades. Brenda Roberts is the coordinator this year, so come and support the library by attending. The older youth and adults are invited to volunteer, and would be appreciated. Snacks will be provided.
Don’t forget the “invasion of the alien bugs” on Thursday, June 27, at 4:30 pm. The presenters are from Iowa State University and the program, presented in each of the county libraries, is funded by the Greene County supervisors and the Greene County Library Association. This will interest adults also, and the public is encouraged to attend. There will be refreshments.
The library is having a contest between the adults and youth. We will keep track of how many books you read between now and Aug. 16. One from each age group will receive a book as a prize.
Our 75th anniversary will be later this summer or early fall. An open house highlighting this milestone is in the early planning stage.
Bible school – Jean Borgeson spent last week volunteering at vacation Bible school at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Tempe, AZ. The theme was “Power Up!” The week was filled with lots of music, crafts, mission projects and of course, snacks! Approximately 160 children and 40 volunteers attended the daily sessions.
Whether a large city or small town, the common thread in events like these are the willingness of the volunteers. Your libraries, churches and schools usually have something going on with the kids during the summer and all depend on volunteers to be successful. Be a volunteer. It will bring a smile to your life!
